I Bulletin40 Web Index

About & Editorial Policy

Bulletin40 is a web directory modelled on the card-catalogue tradition of public reference libraries. Every domain submitted to the index is filed on its own accession card, assigned to a subject drawer, and made available for public browsing without editorial endorsement or ranking.

The catalogue currently holds 835 accession records distributed across 22 subject headings. The largest drawer is Miscellaneous Entries & General Trade, which serves as the catch-all section for sites that span multiple categories or do not fit neatly within a named subject area. The smallest drawers hold fewer than ten cards each, reflecting the narrower range of sites active in those specialisms.

Entries are accepted from any domain that resolves to a working web page. There is no charge for a standard listing, and submissions are reviewed by the Bulletin40 editorial committee before being assigned to the appropriate subject drawer. Submissions are made through the accession form accessible from the homepage.

The catalogue does not rank entries by traffic, age, or any other metric. Cards are filed by domain name within each section, and all listings receive equal treatment. The directory is designed to serve as a neutral reference index rather than a curated recommendation list.

Bulletin40 is part of a broader network of catalogued web directories. Each member of the network maintains the same core index of sites but presents them through a distinct editorial voice and design, providing multiple routes into the same reference holdings.
